Almost nothing is known about George. All that I know of him comes from the record of his marriage, the record of his son's birth, and a biography written by a great-grandchild. His year of birth is unknown, but we do know that in 1783, he wed Sarah Catherall. How many children they had is unknown, but we know for certain that they had one son, also named George, in 1807. Both George and Sarah apparently passed away around 1817.
George and Sarah's children:
George Foster, 1807 - 1864
George was born on the 8th of February, 1807 (occasionally recorded as 1804), in Flintshire, Wales. According to an unverified biography written by his granddaughter for The Welsh Saints Project, both of his parents passed away in 1817, when he was just 10, and he was taken in by a family by the name of Gibbs. While I have never been able to confirm the more personal details of that biography, the basic facts are accurate. He did, in fact, marry a woman named Ellen Berry, on the 8th of April, 1833. And she did, in fact, pass away in 1845. By 1847, he was married to Hannah Maria Gibbs, which again seems to confirm the tale told in the biography, which states that after the death of Ellen, George returned to the Gibbs home, and fell in love with Hannah, the daughter of those who had cared for him as a child.
We do know for certain that George married Hannah on the 19th of May, 1847, and that they went on to have 5 daughters. George worked as a farmer, but it is not clear whether or not he ever ran his own farm, as the family moved several times as part of the Mormon migration. Over the course of their married life, George and Hannah lived in Missouri, Iowa, and Utah, where they remained for the rest of their life together. Hannah passed away in 1858, and at some point after that, George removed to Idaho, where he passed away in 1864.
George and Hannah's children:
Sarah Ann Foster, 1848 - 1928
Ellen Foster, 1850 - 1898
Mary Ann Foster, 1852 - 1923
Hannah Maria Foster, 1856 - 1936
Elizabeth Foster, 1857 - 1937
Ellen Foster was born on the 7th of June, 1850, in Iowa. When she was a toddler, her family removed to Utah, where, at the age of 18, she would become the third wife of notorious polygamist, Alexander Stalker, a man 21 years her senior. Ellen and Alexander had 3 children before she apparently tired of her role as third wife. Sometime between 1874 and 1878 she married Henry Harrison Woodland, and the two went on to have 6 children. Ellen passed away on the 29th of November, 1898, at the young age of 48.
Ellen and Alexander's children:
George Foster Stalker, 1869 - 1940
Lorenzo Francis Stalker, 1872 - 1916
David Stalker, 1874 - 1947
Ellen and Henry's children:
John Woodland, 1878 -
Daniel Brown Woodland, 1880 - 1946
Celia Woodland, 1883 - 1956
Annie Woodland, 1885 - 1973
Clarence Woodland, 1888 - 1957
